Kyan was selected for student of the month last month at his elementary school...little did we all know that he was going to get pneumonia the week that he was supposed to get the award and have to miss the entire week of school, thus, missing the awards assembly. Mrs. Revord did some shuffling of names and said that she would rearrange things so that he could get the award next month if she could get the other student's mom in on such short notice (just so happens that I work with her, so she was pretty flexible, thanks Casillas)! So today he received his award!
Last night I told Kyan that I had a little bit of time off in the morning to visit his classroom (at this point he didn't know he had been chosen for the award) and he was beyond thrilled! I arrived with my camera in hand around 8am and immediately he grinned from ear to ear! The kids new they were going to go to the assembly in a few minutes, but Kyan still had no clue that that was why I was there! It is a good thing that I almost always have my camera with me at all times or I would say that it might have thrown him, but I am sure he just figured there is my mama with the camera, again! (I know one day they will thank me).
It was so cute how they reveal the Student of the Month and even cuter to watch Kyan's face when he realizes that it is him!

I am so proud of you Kyan!
I am so proud of you Kyan!
Then it was back to work for me and what a great Friday I had! Week 1 of Poetry...done! Not sure how many of you know this, but I hate teaching poetry! It makes my skin crawl actually, but it is something that I have to teach! Why do I hate it you ask? Well, probably because I don't get most of the poems that I read - I think they are about one thing, when they are really about something else entirely! I am learning that that is okay and that that is kinda the point! Are you confused just reading that?! Me too. HA! One more week to go. On a positive note, week 1 of poetry went very well, the kids actually loved the lessons every single day (thanks to the help of my reading coach, he is a poetic genius)!
After school Lola and I headed to see Zonia for her first haircut!
I was tired of what I like to call the "bird's nest"! No matter what I did with her hair, in a matter of minutes, it seemed like the back of it would get ratty and even with detangler, it was incredibly hard to brush. What set me off the most with her hair was not even the hair itself, but Lola! Yesterday when I told her to go to mommy's bathroom to brush her hair she said to me, "Mommy, you nuts!" I about died and just looked at Kyan and we both started laughing! I couldn't believe my ears! She just called me nuts for wanting to brush her nest! You can better believe that we did not skip the hair brushing that morning!
So today, she went

She did a great job on the chair after a slight freak out! Zonia clipped some hair stuff to her shirt and she was good to go! It helped that she spun us around in circles a few times! I didn't get any pictures of the actual haircut because I had to hold her (you know, that slight freak out didn't start out so slight)! As I was driving home, I realized that I didn't save any of her hair from her first haircut either. I was too far away to turn back to get some, as I am sure it would have already been in the trash if I would have (sorry Candis, think I might hear it the worst from you on that one), at first I felt awful about it, but then I thought about what really I would do with the hair, at least I have the pictures! Anywho, I love her new little haircut and she does too! With all of the baby hair gone, her hair will grow much faster and thicker than it was before! Hope everyone else had as great of a Friday as the Roseland family did!

Oh I LOVE this post!!! LOVE it!! Lola's hair looks STUNNING! And precious Kyan, he is too cute for words and so excited to see you. And I loved what you said about always having the camera with you. I think my kids think the same about me. wish mine looked as good as yours though! :)
xoxo
oh yes, I HATE poetry as well. I feel the exact same way as you. WHAT ARE THEY SAYING? hehe
sooooo stinkin cute! it is super girly girl!
Congrats to Kyan, I personally think that he deserves student of the month, every month! He is such an awesome kid. I do have to mention, don't the kids start to pick up on, when mommy comes to work then it's me who gets student of the month??
I FRIGGING LOVE LOOOOOOOOOVVVEEEE Lola's hair. What a huge difference and I think you should keep cutting the back and let the sides grow-like mama of course. She looks so adorable. I'm kinda jealous. You know how much I want my hair like yours (again) and to have Jayla have a matching hair cut, as well. But I just don't look as cute as you do and Jearel would kill me if I ever cut Jay's hair. I have tried several times to convince him (I love little girls and bob cuts). Not that I am complaining about Jayla's hair. We have been very lucky that she has the thick, now super long hair, but it can be a HUGE pain in the butt. Especially when you have a daughter that can't sit still.
I am right there with you on poetry. I'm glad your first week went well :)
Congratulations Kyan!! The video was so sweet. I also carry a camera at all times now. I have missed too many sweet moments not to.
LOVE Lola's haircut. So cute. Love the Mia Joie hairclip too.
Sorry about poetry. I have tried so hard to understand it- but like you I think it means one thing and it means something totally different. Almost over though.
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
congrats to kyan!!! what a special award i love the video....the kids are so cute...and lolas hair is to die for she looks so adorable...im glad she did good for u...she had purdy hair like her momma :)
Jennifer Ashley, I am sitting at my computer crying my eyes out. WHY? This post was so emotional & adorable to me. The video of Kyan waiting for the announcement was so cute, and Lola's big girl hair cut made me lose it.
Meanwhile, Camden is sitting on my lap asking for "More Bideo" & calls Lola, "Yoya."
Thank you for sharing!
How CUTE is Kyan?!!! His face is priceless and you can just see the excitement and pride. Love it... Moments like that can make a Mom's heart bust wide open!
Love love love Lolas hair! Im looking for a new do for Madeleine. Her hair is so fine that, like Lola, it just tangles and strings right away. Maddie wont relent though, she wants long hair like Sleeping Beauty... So, detangler and brush stay in our car.
Poetry huh? Impressive. Even if you can't decode it. I am impressed. =)
Yay for Kyan! And I ADORE Lola's hair cut!!!! Now you have me reconsidering growing Lillie's out. Lillie's is always a mess and I figured we would just have to somehow get through this phase, but now after seeing Lola's absolutely adorable hair cut I think I may just have to have Lillie's cut too!
K, so I went back & read this post again (through clear eyes) & loved it all over again. I would never tease you about forgetting Lolita's hair....in fact, it's kinda' funny that I wouldn't expect anything different! haaa Just not your style.
I, on the other hand, will have to be on that show Hoarders if I don't quit saving stupid stuff! (you'll have to come have an intervention with me.)
I'm getting ready to post, and wish I had more pics, but feel free to steal away. : )
